The space

arriving at the Ou Gallery, an immediate sense of warmth radiated from hosts Barclay and Donovan and the space itself. it did not take long to develop a sense of belonging among this home for artists. throughout the course of my stay, i showed some work (see Reading Family Letters), put together a simple darkroom, and did some intense self-reflection.

morning selfies

every morning before coffee, i would go upstairs to the studio and take my morning selfie. this process became habitual and meditative. the long exposures of up to two minutes would allow time to reflect on the day ahead. this ritual became an important way to steady myself within the creative flurry.

artists in their spaces

during my time at the Ou Gallery, i had a chance to get to know the other artists and their processes. the studio space was shared with owners Barclay Martin and Donovan Rose, and fellow resident Katy Biele.

photographs depict the artists in their spaces, with some observations about their process.
